Phase II Contract Awarded to Improve I-264 East in Virginia Beach

The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) awarded a $105.4 million contract on Dec. 6 to construct Phase II of the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project.

The contract was awarded to The Lane Construction Corporation of Cheshire, Conn., to improve mobility, reduce congestion and increase safety on I-264 east from Newtown Road in Norfolk to Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. This project is Phase II of the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements. It is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2021

Lane Construction Corp. will build a new collector-distributor road and reconfigure the south side of the interchanges at Newtown and Witchduck roads. The new ramp configurations will remove the weaving traffic movements that eastbound motorists encounter at both interchanges when they exit and enter the interstate. The project will also build a bridge over I-264 connecting Greenwich Road on the south side to Cleveland Street on the north.

The project is funded by SMART SCALE and the HRTAC. For updates on Phase I and II of the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements work, subscribe here.
